Elly and Jethro found themselves among the beatniks gathered at the Parthenon West, and Granny tried to persuade them to leave. Her efforts proved futile, however, and soon she too was swept up in the scene, even originating a new dance called "The Tater Digger." Jed encouraged the younger generation’s self-expression until he witnessed Granny's transformed appearance and behavior; then his opinion shifted.
