Old love letters from Jethro unexpectedly brought mountain man Lafe Crick and his daughter, Essiebelle, to Beverly Hills. Jethro anticipated marrying Essiebelle with great pleasure, until he observed a significant change in her figure. Essiebelle, however, remained unbothered, harboring affections for a young man back amongst the hills. When Jed discovered this, he took steps to ensure the wedding would not take place.
