With Mrs. Drysdale departing for a health retreat, she remarked that Mr. Drysdale would likely have a new wife upon her return. Subsequently, Mr. Drysdale confided in Cousin Pearl his desire for her to serve as his housekeeper. This, however, led the Clampetts to believe he intended to marry Pearl, prompting Jed to devise a scheme to preserve the Drysdales’ marriage.
