It's really something to see Jim Carrey playing an antagonist; he’s fantastic in the role, clearly committed to portraying a truly unpleasant character. The central figure, Sonic, proves entertaining, though his personal history feels underdeveloped when set beside those of the other people involved. Despite that, it remains an enjoyable, lively film suitable for watching with children.

With amazing velocity, Sonic settles into life on Earth -- that is, until he causes a blackout, which alerts the rather bland villain Dr. Robotnik. The story unfolds as an encounter between a supervillain and something incredibly fast, set against a worldwide competition to prevent Robotnik from exploiting Sonic's abilities for global control.
