I initially gave this series a preliminary score of 7 out of 10. The initial episodes were quite impressive, but the quality declined noticeably, at an alarming rate comparable to what happened with Neil Gaiman’s handling of American Gods in 2017 – it seemed like any depiction of Black people addressing slavery in America was destined to upset some white viewers!
