I initially gave this series a preliminary score of 7 out of 10. The initial episodes were quite impressive, but the quality declined noticeably, at an alarming rate comparable to what happened with Neil Gaiman’s handling of American Gods in 2017 – it seemed like any depiction of Black people addressing slavery in America was destined to upset some white viewers! My final assessment for Season 1 is a 6/10. While the first season had its merits, it's undermined by the issues that worsened considerably in Season 2. These problems became so significant that I simply couldn’t continue watching around the middle point of the second season. It's baffling to me how The Strain (from 2014) maintains such a positive reputation and remains on suggested viewing lists.
