Rob’s admiration for Buddy’s new Meerschaum pipe was tempered by a deeper feeling: it had been a gift from Alan Brady. He wasn't merely impressed; he was envious. As the show's head writer, Rob was beginning to feel a creeping sense of obsolescence. A recent illness and the subsequent days spent away from work only exacerbated his anxieties.
