As Earl sought to eliminate number 24 from his list – “Stole a red ‘Take-a-number’ machine” – Randy attempted to dissuade him. He tried to jog Earl's memory, conjuring up a flashback to their acquisition of the device around New Year’s Eve in 1999. Darnell, with his characteristic conviction, persuaded the group that the impending Y2K bug would herald the apocalypse, and they, in a perverse sort of triumph, would be the sole survivors.
