Laverne had a chipped tooth and, out of kindness to Shirley, agreed to let Shirley’s dentistry student cousin, Mikey, take care of it. The unfortunate thing was that Mikey wasn’t exactly skilled; however, Laverne couldn’t possibly reveal his shortcomings, as Shirley's cousin’s professor was observing him with meticulous attention.
