Julia and Suzanne's trip to Japan, intended as a visit with their mother, quickly fell apart. Upon arrival, they learned she had gone to Paris to be with a friend who was unwell; soon after, they were dismayed to find themselves robbed of both their luggage and their money. Simultaneously, Anthony and Mary Jo faced an unexpectedly large telephone bill, the result of numerous calls placed in support of a television poll.
