Synopsis

Black Books centers on Bernard Black, a boozy bookshop owner whose explosive temper and eccentric personality drive the comedy. He's joined by Manny, his unfailingly kind and patient assistant – a world away from Bernard's antics. Despite constant abuse, Manny remains a steadfast presence. Along with their longtime friend Fran, the trio finds comfort in each other as they navigate life. Their cozy bookshop is meant to be a place for intellectual pursuits and good company, but the characters themselves are a constant source of chaos. Their tendency for poor choices and silly humor repeatedly jeopardizes their lives, both personally and professionally. The complicated relationship between Bernard, Manny, and Fran is at the heart of this funny and lovable series.
