Synopsis

For its initial two decades, NASA sent capsules aloft, each carrying no more than three individuals. However, evolving needs for a larger cargo capacity spurred a significant advance in spacecraft design. This ultimately led to the development of the reusable shuttle, marking a revolutionary shift in how we travel to space. Simultaneously, the original explorers of NASA’s human spaceflight programs were charting a course toward the modern era of space exploration.
