Synopsis

The League of Gentlemen is a wildly unconventional British comedy series that premiered on BBC Two in 1999. The show explores the lives of the strange residents of Royston Vasey, a fictional town based on Bacup, Lancashire, and its inhabitants, played mainly by Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton, and Reece Shearsmith. These three actors are also two-thirds of the League of Gentlemen comedy troupe, formed in 1995 with Jeremy Dyson. Originally airing for three seasons until 2002, the series was followed by a 2005 film. For their 20th anniversary, the troupe returned in December 2017 with a special three-part mini-series, revisiting the bizarre characters of Royston Vasey and delivering their signature humor to a new audience.
