The lecturer began with a history of the Swordquest games, explaining they were far from typical Atari action titles. Instead, they served as components of a promotional contest, offering players the chance to win tangible prizes crafted from gold and other precious minerals. Originally envisioned as a series of four games, only three were ever completed. The 1983 video game crash led Atari to abandon the development of the fourth, and consequently, the remaining contests were never held.
