The persistent barrage of harassing phone calls had driven Helen Clarvoe to seek legal recourse. She approached Paul Blackshear, a lawyer, requesting an investigation into a woman named Dorothy Johnson, whom she suspected of orchestrating the unwanted intrusions. Dorothy, in turn, held Helen responsible for the dissolution of her wedding engagement. Blackshear’s inquiry yielded an outcome far removed from what anyone could have anticipated.
