I’ve seen this series both when I was younger and again now, and while the computer-generated imagery isn't impressive by today's standards—they frequently repeat a small number of shots showing spacecraft flying around, which might bother some viewers—it doesn’t detract from my enjoyment. Despite that, I continue to enjoy it. The action sequences vary because they include both ground and space combat, so you aren’t stuck with the same predictable pattern of events in each installment. What stands out is that the characters feel like real people who have backgrounds and destinations; it's a quality that seems absent from some contemporary storytelling where characters are simply defined by a single characteristic for the sake of plot convenience. A detailed science fiction setting was created, extending beyond just the conflict with the Chigs, and I would have appreciated seeing more of it in further seasons, but as is typical with good science fiction on FOX, it was abruptly canceled.
