I've always enjoyed the Resident Evil movies and games, so naturally, I was looking forward to this new television adaptation. Unfortunately, for me, the only thing it really had going for it was the title—that’s about all that connects it to what came before. It doesn't feature any of the familiar characters from the established series, and the plot feels very loosely inspired by the original story. Even more problematic is how awkwardly the new storyline unfolds; it feels clunky and unnatural. I wasn't really surprised because it seems unsure of where it’s headed. There was a lot to draw upon when creating this show, so why not use what already works? I also question why they aimed for what looks like a young adult audience. Resident Evil has always been geared toward older viewers, and trying to fit it into that category feels completely wrong. Ultimately, I think it's just another forgettable zombie series that doesn’t distinguish itself from the many others out there. Overall, I was quite let down by this one; I won’t be watching past the first episode.
