My initial assessment of The Murdoch Mysteries, written for another publication some time ago, was very positive. However, as with numerous other programs, it has unfortunately devolved into a platform where those promoting a particular agenda attempt to impose their version of “tolerant” viewpoints on audiences. This rewriting of history is especially disappointing because it disregards the historical context of the show’s setting. I suggest watching the first ten or so seasons; they provide a distinctive Canadian perspective on murder mysteries in the style of Agatha Christie, though taking place during the Victorian and Edwardian eras. The performances are strong, and the crime stories unfold with decorum and politeness, mirroring the values embodied by the central character, Detective William Murdoch. Essentially, what was once a quality program has been diminished by the predictable, moralizing, woke content that many viewers would prefer to see disappear.
