Mark petitioned God, requesting that Jonathan become a police officer for a time. Forty years passed, and Jonathan finally assumed human form, only to confront the brutal realities inherent in policing. He also aided an officer struggling with remorse after fatally shooting a teenager who had been holding an unloaded weapon. Later, when that same officer took hostages, the father of the deceased boy stepped forward to explain why his son’s gun contained no ammunition.
