Synopsis

On October 17, 1961, at the behest of the FLN, an estimated twenty to thirty thousand Algerians residing in France marched peacefully through the streets of Paris. The authorities arrested twelve thousand individuals during the demonstration. This large-scale roundup, orchestrated by Police Prefect Maurice Papon, was followed by severe abuses and a significant number of disappearances.
