Synopsis

Jeremiah, repelled by Josette’s conduct, intended to confide in Barnabas the truth of her moral failings. But at the last moment, he hesitated, unwilling to cause distress to his cherished nephew. Instead, he turned his attention to Josette directly, confronting her about her actions. She offered no adequate justification. Angelique, growing impatient with Jeremiah’s inaction, then wove a spell of love around him, ensuring he would now return Josette's affections.
