Synopsis

Their entreaties fell on deaf ears; Angelique, Andre, and Josette could not dissuade Barnabas and Jeremiah from their impending duel. To safeguard Barnabas, Angelique pressed a "special" charm upon him, a token of good fortune to be worn during the contest. Yet, blinded by jealousy and pride, Barnabas proceeded with the duel, and fired, grievously wounding Jeremiah.
