Synopsis

Theodore Roosevelt assumed the presidency at the age of forty-six. During his time in office, he oversaw the construction of the Panama Canal, earned the Nobel Prize for Peace, and aggressively championed far-reaching social reforms. With his term nearing its end, Roosevelt designated his close friend, William Howard Taft, then Secretary of War, as his successor. Taft subsequently won the election of 1908.
