Synopsis

Judith Light introduces a portrait of George Eastman (1854-1932), the man whose Kodak and Brownie cameras irrevocably altered how people perceived their surroundings. The program draws upon interviews with historians, alongside archival stills and film footage, to reconstruct the image of the autocratic Eastman, a figure who deliberately circumvented the established professional photography world. Kodak’s famous slogan, "You press the button, we do the rest," perfectly encapsulated his vision, a
