Following Israel’s victory and hosting of the Eurovision Song Contest in Jerusalem in 1979, Israeli television ultimately passed on the chance to welcome Europe back for another year. A period of deliberation followed, leading to a decision: Dutch broadcaster NOS would take on the responsibility of organizing the contest, bringing it to The Hague.
