I found myself thoroughly enjoying this film. From the very beginning, it’s important to understand that it operates as a fantasy rather than science-fiction; typically, science-fiction attempts to provide reasons behind events, but here we simply accept things as they are. The conversations were largely clever and amusing, and I felt empathy for the characters. I did have a minor reservation regarding the established history of platonic relationships between the two main characters, since the reasoning behind that wasn’t entirely clear, but I was able to overlook it. Also, I appreciated the inclusion of the third lead character—the Mini Cooper (I've actually owned one for close to twenty years). A portion of the ending felt somewhat foreseeable, and another part was predictable, however, a different aspect of the resolution genuinely surprised me with its originality, so ultimately it satisfied me. An intriguing secondary storyline involved individuals who possessed knowledge concerning the Beatles that fueled the narrative, and I was pleasantly surprised by how that plotline played out. And yes, addressing an obvious point, most of the songs featured in the film were arguably better when performed by The Beatles, but isn’t that precisely what the story intended? I didn't mind setting that aside to appreciate this harmless and entertaining movie. I also noticed and appreciated how good-natured Ed Sheeran was in his role, allowing the main character to seemingly triumph over him in a songwriting competition (though of course, Ed is the real victor). In this film, everyone achieves success—except perhaps the fictional Beatles, unless they’d prefer their ultimate destination.
