This movie came very close to being truly exceptional. There’s much I appreciated about *‘Where Eagles Dare’*, and at its heart, the film possesses some genuine quality. The action is entertaining, the performances are wonderful, and the score is powerful. Nevertheless, it has too many slow parts for me to rate it higher than ‘good.’ A two-hour length would have been ideal; instead, it runs over two and a half hours, and that’s noticeable. The rhythm feels off, and any good scene is immediately undermined by the film feeling drawn out. It definitely lingers on too long, in my view. Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood are fantastic together, and the rest of the cast delivers solid performances as well. It's disappointing because I could easily have made this one of my favorites if it weren’t for those issues. I would welcome a more concise version of this film, since all the necessary elements are present; at times, it feels like a *‘Bond’* movie blended with *‘Fast & Furious.’*
