Many movies ask viewers to set aside disbelief and accept that events unfolding onscreen could conceivably occur. I’m usually willing to go along with that, provided the movie makes some effort to establish a sense of plausibility through details that ground the narrative. This one doesn't even attempt to do that. I like Morgan Freeman’s performances, so I decided to give this film a chance and see what it offered. It fails not only in establishing any kind of believability but also features a character portrayed by Elle Fanning whose seeming indifference to resolving her situation borders on ridiculous. The movie includes several scenes depicting shootings and deaths, spends considerable time showing Elle Fanning’s character riding a motorcycle through the city, and presents what's meant to be a disturbing depiction of her daughter pleading for assistance—but these elements don’t connect to the plot at all! The acting felt unconvincing overall, leaving me feeling regretful for having sat through the entire thing hoping it would improve. It didn’t. I wouldn't suggest seeing this unless you are truly out of options for entertainment.
