Uncharted falls into the category of action-adventure movies, yet it doesn’t manage to escape the pattern of disappointing video game adaptations. This is mainly because there isn’t enough actual action and adventure present throughout. While Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg both give solid performances and their characters experience believable development, director Ruben Fleischer presents a very predictable story that relies too heavily on explaining things. The supporting cast also feels unimportant, largely due to the tiresome cycle of betrayals and changes in who the main villain turns out to be. Ultimately, the impression is that experiencing the story firsthand would have been more engaging than just observing it unfold. It might satisfy those already familiar with the franchise, but for most viewers, it’s merely “just one more” movie. Rating: C-
