The movie definitely carries over elements from its predecessor, which is a nice change of pace since many animated follow-ups try to reinvent themselves completely. However, it goes too far in that direction and becomes an unoriginal retread of familiar material. _Ultimate Avengers_ simply wasn't successful initially either.
