A family vacationing in Louisiana—Jim Caviezel and Elisabeth Röhm play the parents—takes a wrong turn and encounters thieves (played by James Frain, Diora Baird, Harold Perrineau, and Ryan Donowho). “Transit,” released in 2012, is a crime thriller set within the bayous of southern Louisiana. It feels like something between “Reclaim” from 2014 and “Breakdown” (1997), although there’s one moment that felt odd—a vehicle appears to move incredibly fast while catching people completely off guard. Aside from that, it's a solid swamp adventure/thriller, though the overly subdued color palette and a few scenes with rapid cutting are distracting. Any strange choices characters make can probably be understood as reactions to intense pressure. I found myself enjoying the film because it puts an ordinary family in a desperate fight for survival within a landscape that recalls Man-Thing comics—though without the monster itself. The criminals certainly fill that role, though. I would have appreciated more focus on character development, but there’s enough of that to satisfy this kind of fast-paced action movie. The film has a runtime of 1 hour and 28 minutes and was filmed in Praireville, Louisiana. GRADE: B-/B
