This film proves to be enjoyable and worthwhile, but I don't think it quite reaches greatness because of a couple of things that bothered me considerably. Be aware that what follows contains spoilers if you haven’t seen the movie yet. The beginning is pretty solid. I appreciated seeing Wolverine enter that bar and take his revenge on the guy who was hunting bears with poisoned darts. However, after that, it didn't maintain its momentum as well. My biggest problem is how they alter Wolverine’s healing abilities early on, essentially putting him at a disadvantage for a significant portion of the film. That really disappointed me. Despite this, there are still some exciting action scenes. The fight on the Japanese bullet train was enjoyable, although it might have gone on just a little too long. Eventually, he does regain his powers, but that feeling doesn’t last. During the final battle, they actually take away Wolverine's adamantium claws, and it doesn't appear like he gets them back. Seriously? That felt unnecessary. He regrows his original bone claws, sure, but that isn't the same thing. Wolverine should have his adamantium claws; there’s no question about it. This is something I often dislike with many Hollywood producers and directors these days. They seem to think they need to create a shock by dismantling established icons and constants within movie fantasy worlds, like repeatedly destroying the Enterprise. It's frustrating, and for me, this is what prevents the film from being truly great. Either they need to restore his proper claws or they might as well do a complete restart of the series. It’s unfortunate that they, I wouldn’t say ruined it, but at least lessened its impact in this way. Otherwise, it would have been excellent. It has plenty of good action sequences, a decent script, and Hugh Jackman delivers a strong performance as Wolverine. Honestly, the only one who didn't quite impress me was Dr. Green; his acting felt rather weak. Overall, it’s a good and entertaining movie that could have been considerably better if it hadn’t been for those Hollywood people who decided they needed to add something shocking just to mess things up.
