I think *The Mummy Returns* is a step down from the first one, but it still managed to entertain me. There are so many special effects crammed into this film, and as I mentioned before, they don’t hold up well – and that problem is even more noticeable here. Even though those less-than-great visuals didn't ruin my enjoyment completely, like they did last time, the sheer amount of them really does become distracting. The Scorpion King near the end looks especially rough, I have to admit. The acting is pretty much what I said about the earlier film; Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz work well together, and it’s nice to see their son (Freddie Boath does a good job) included. And as I mentioned in my review of *The Mummy*, I was hoping for more Oded Fehr, and this time they gave me what I wanted. It was interesting seeing Dwayne Johnson as The Scorpion King, a character—and apparently an entire franchise; five films total!—that I wasn’t even aware of until recently. Considering how his acting career has progressed since then, I imagine he didn't appear in all those spin-offs; I am curious to check them out eventually.
