It’s simply an entertaining movie. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz portray a pair who don't seem like they belong together, embarking on a quest to locate the golden riches of Pharaoh Seti I. Accompanied by her timid brother (John Hannah), they come across the Mummy – representing pure wickedness, sickness, and ruin – and become involved in an intense fight to overcome this terrifying rebirth. Stephen Sommers maintains a good pace throughout, and there are moments within the story that elicit smiles. It might not hold up under close examination from Egyptologists, but it provides a pleasant adventure through a relatively unexplored area of ancient legends.
