The essence of what makes "The Menu" work rests primarily with Ralph Fiennes’s portrayal. His character, a chef delivering sharp, ironic remarks and an escalating sense of danger, proves to be captivating. To be honest, it was Fiennes's central performance that held my attention throughout the film; another actor in his place might have led me to abandon it entirely. This leads me to consider the writing itself. The underlying concept feels familiar, holding a certain potential that ultimately isn’t fully realized. Consequently, the story suffers from several diversions and lacks both cohesion and believability. It's not terrible by any means. However, with more focused development and refinement of the plot, it could have achieved considerably greater impact. Ultimately, I suspect "The Menu" will be recalled for Ralph Fiennes’s outstanding performance—that accounts for most of my 7/10 score. Otherwise, this film is likely to fade from memory as just another horror movie.
