My biggest problem with Jon Favreau's _Jungle Book_ feels a little unfair to bring up, but it’s also pretty significant. For ages before seeing this remake, I kept hearing about how wonderful an actor the boy playing Mowgli was, and how realistic the animals looked, and that you wouldn't be able to tell the backgrounds were animated sets. After watching _The Jungle Book_, I discovered those praises weren't really accurate. That might seem like several separate complaints, but they all come down to one central problem: my ability to accept what I was seeing. Or rather, the absence of it. From the very beginning, there wasn’t a time that I wasn’t pulled out of the story because something didn't quite ring true—usually how the creatures appeared. I couldn't fully invest myself in the film, and while I acknowledge this version improves on the 1967 one from a plot perspective, I still felt consistently bothered by Mowgli looking so obviously out of place against his surroundings. _Final rating:★★½ - It wasn’t really for me, though I understand why others might like it._
