You go to see this film for just two reasons: the action sequences and the chance to watch familiar, tough-guy actors again. For my part, it was primarily the action that held my interest because some of these performers are definitely showing their age. Stallone, Dolph, and Schwarzenegger particularly seem to have passed their prime for roles like these. Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme seemed fine, and Bruce Willis’s presence didn't feel out of place considering his years. The movie follows a similar formula to the first *Expendables*, with a thin storyline serving as a backdrop for extended action set pieces. And there is plenty of action, all reasonably well executed, though naturally not always believable. I don’t get why many professional reviewers seemed to prefer this film over its predecessor; I found them quite alike, and I thought the earlier one was better because it had a slightly more sensible and logical plot. For example, in this movie, characters appeared seemingly from nowhere to rescue each other with an improbable amount of firepower, which felt like they just inserted those scenes to get another actor into the film…and that’s likely what happened. However, I wasn't disappointed. I was looking for a full-throttle action experience, and that's precisely what I received: plenty of action, stereotypical tough-guy lines, and corny jokes (I appreciated Schwarzenegger’s comment about that ridiculous Smart car they used in the airport). There are also numerous references to other films—*Rambo*, *Terminator*, and so on—and they even included a line from Duke Nukem. I had a great time watching this movie.
