Three young people venture into Maryland’s forests to look for proof of the “Blair Witch” story. Not long after they begin, they misplace their map and become disoriented; they find an old house and proceed to yell and swear quite a bit. It's difficult to recall any details about these three characters, who I found particularly unpleasant. The filmmakers, Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánches, use sound effects instead of building suspense. Despite the fact that they end up spending more nights than intended in the woods without food, their camera batteries seem to last an improbable amount of time as they wander around in the darkness, heading toward whatever grim outcome they probably deserve. The film’s success is primarily due to clever promotion rather than substance; those involved in marketing did a fantastic job. I would suggest seeing it only because it has gained a cult following—which, like many films considered part of that special category, is just another way of saying they're pretty bad.
