I have mixed feelings about *’The Beekeeper’*. It provides genuinely good entertainment because Jason Statham is excellent as a seriously tough character—every moment he's in feels really well done. The editing, action sequences, and music are all strong points, even if the rest of it comes across as frustratingly inconsistent, and I’m not entirely certain how much those weaker parts impacted my overall enjoyment. Aside from Statham’s performance, the acting is uneven. Josh Hutcherson and Jeremy Irons do a good job; I suspect less talented performers could have made things worse, so they're fairly successful in their roles. However, the actors playing the FBI agents—particularly Emmy Raver-Lampman and her colleagues—aren’t particularly memorable. They're adequate, but also somewhat dull. Raver-Lampman’s character is poorly developed, which isn't really her fault, but it’s still noticeable. Without giving anything away, I believe her character should have been more understanding of Clay’s motivations considering the circumstances—certainly maintaining professionalism is important, but it seems like she completely forgot what happened earlier in the film. The depiction of the criminal organizations also feels overly exaggerated; my experience suggests that people involved in those kinds of activities are typically unremarkable individuals who simply know how to carry out their actions, rather than being “Gen Z” (I apologize for using that term *shudder*) clever and constantly partying as this movie portrays them. I’m satisfied with the rating I chose, although Statham deserved a higher one.
