I wasn't a fan of the initial installment back in 2016, but I held out hope that they might refine their approach over time. That hasn’t happened, though. This one feels essentially identical to the previous film; this time, the threatening clown known as "Art" is pursuing trick-or-treaters on Halloween. To be honest, I sympathize with his actions because those demanding children who roam the streets for candy are deserving of whatever comes their way. Making good use of his costume, "Art" focuses his attention on "Sienna" (Lauren Silva) and her brother, “Jonathan” (Elliott Fulham), and then the killings begin. The performances and script aren't particularly strong, but that’s almost overshadowed by how repetitive the violent scenes are. It’s a constant string of unbelievable situations featuring characters who consistently make incredibly foolish choices when confronted with danger; we just keep moving forward through it all, filled with screaming and over-the-top reactions. The whole thing feels like one of those video games where enemies don't stay defeated for very long, so this sense of invincibility leads to a feeling of boredom as the story struggles to be interesting or original, ultimately resembling an extended version of "Scooby Doo." The villain’s menacing presence has lost its effectiveness, and I simply thought it was a remarkably lengthy and tedious experience that screamed “franchise” from almost the beginning. Frightening? Not even close.
