It feels like certain errors are simply unacceptable when kids are involved. Sandler usually makes more relatable, everyday dramas these days, so this film felt surprising back when it was released. I understand and value it considerably better now that I’m older, especially the point the story ultimately tries to make. I would have preferred a somewhat altered conclusion, but it remains a worthwhile watch.

The synopsis describes a mother and daughter moving from Mexico to America seeking improved circumstances, finding employment with a household headed by a chef who has recently achieved recognition but whose spouse struggles with self-assurance. Seriously, that doesn't even begin to convey what this film is actually about! It’s such a disappointing summary for something so full of feeling.
