“Jez” (Stuart Townsend) and “Dylan” (Dan Futterman), sharing backgrounds without parental supervision and originating from different sides of the Atlantic, have put together a clever scheme for making money. One is skilled with technology; the other could probably convince anyone to buy something they don’t need. Operating out of an old London gasometer, their goal is to raise £2 million so that “Dylan,” who grew up wanting one, can purchase a grand estate. Their newest plan involves a wealthy woman named "Georgie” (Kate Beckinsale), and soon the pair expands to three as they move closer to achieving their aim. However, things go wrong when they encounter a particularly sharp person they’re trying to deceive, leading to jail time and the surprising news that Her Majesty intends to keep them incarcerated for three months—and has lost interest in her image on a £50 bill, which must be retrieved before their release. What are they supposed to do now? Meanwhile, "Georgie" is preparing to marry “Roger” (Dominic Mafham) while struggling to maintain her late father’s charitable foundation, something she feels strongly about because her younger brother, who has Downs Syndrome, resides with friends in a converted section of their family home that the tax authorities are now demanding. Though genuinely principled, could she be persuaded to assist the two men in preserving their wealth—but on conditions set by her? The film does have moments where it falters, particularly toward the conclusion, but there’s an undeniable connection between the two men and a spark between Townsend and Beckinsale that makes their scams amusing. The music, featuring “Space” and "Beautiful Neighbourhood," along with some genuinely funny dialogue, made this a movie I found myself enjoying quite a bit. It's essentially a story about how young people can reinvent themselves.
