The movie wasn't really what it seemed to be—it was advertised as a romantic comedy, but that’s not quite right. It's funny, certainly, and tells the story of an intelligent woman who lacks formal qualifications and learns how to achieve success by staying true to herself. The plot has its flaws; it doesn't always make sense, though there are numerous humorous scenes, especially when the Monday Moms appear. A highlight is Jennifer Lopez’s character reconnecting with her daughter, whom she had given up for adoption years ago. The other actors in smaller roles also provide amusement. However, the main character makes some questionable choices and tells lies to people close to her, which creates a sense of unease about wanting her to succeed. In the end, Second Act seems to lose its way, resulting in a rushed and unoriginal conclusion. Nevertheless, it’s refreshing to see a comedy centered on a mother-daughter bond rather than romantic relationships.
