It’s a horror anthology, and it delivers on several fronts: a tribute to older horror films, a comedic approach to low-budget horror, and plenty of gore. The inclusion of Joe Bob Briggs is an added bonus, especially if you were a fan of "Toxic Avenger." If those elements appeal to you, then “Scare Package” might be worth your time. However, the structure, even with its focus on familiar horror themes in each segment, becomes wearing after a while. There’s definitely much to appreciate here, and it's likely you'll have more fun if you are already into this kind of thing. And that Joe Bob Briggs appearance! I received his "Drive In" book as a present way back in 1985; he’s fantastic and was my favorite aspect of the film. My complaints would be: starting with one of the shorts before introducing the framing story felt like an interesting choice, but it caused some confusion. The excessive gore also starts to feel monotonous. And ultimately, the movie runs too long. A drive-in award should go to the special effects team—they were clearly working overtime!
