Piranhas attack as a group – not for safety, but to use sheer power. It seems that many of today's younger moviegoers go to theaters together; they have clear preferences and know how to enjoy even movies that are silly or basic. I’m not criticizing this, it simply reflects the kind of films available to them, which is why movies like this Piranha remake, reimagining, or update exist and make money—sometimes even launching a series of sequels. Alexandre Aja's *Piranha 3D* is like a rapid-fire weapon; it understood exactly how to draw audiences. Even before the 3D aspect was promoted as a feature, rumors circulated about scantily clad bodies on beaches and lots of computer-generated killer fish tearing apart an entire town. And that’s precisely what you get, plus some additional scenes with nudity and Elisabeth Shue and Ving Rhames delivering some serious beatings. The film is extremely violent, even shocking and sensationalistic. It's hard to tell whether the intention is for viewers to laugh, scream, or react in a way that Russ Meyer would approve of. But, as someone who’s getting older, I can say there’s plenty of entertainment to be found if you’re willing to clear your mind. *Piranha 3D* detractors, prepare yourselves—your grandchildren might be watching something like *Piranha 27: Sexy Mechanoid Bimbos Fight Back* someday. But will they regret it in the morning? 7/10
