The idea that some strategies are foolproof? It’s the absence of any strategy at all. Because life doesn't follow a script. ‘Parasite’ is truly exceptional; I’m still feeling energized by how good it is—completely unexpected and wild. This summer, I was getting tired of the constant stream of sequels, reboots, and films that seem to lack any real heart, so it’s wonderful to see movies like this occasionally. I have a lot of respect for Bong Joon-Ho as a filmmaker, particularly his Korean productions. That's not to say I didn’t enjoy his English-language efforts such as ‘Snowpiercer’ and 'Okja', but in my view they aren't quite on the same level as his earlier work, and thankfully there isn't anyone interfering with his creative vision. Bong Joon-Ho is one of the best directors working today, and ‘Parasite’ reinforces that impression. The film seamlessly combines drama and comedy, achieving something that seems nearly impossible. The humor is genuinely funny and well crafted, brought to life by the actors' performances. What I appreciate most is how it can be both humorous, suspenseful, and intense—engaging every sense and emotion simultaneously; very few filmmakers are capable of creating something so distinctive. The acting from everyone involved was superb, and each character has a great deal of depth, which contributes significantly to the movie’s captivating nature. The visuals were gorgeous, the music was striking, and there's so much meaning woven into it that I remained invested throughout. I strongly suggest going in knowing as little as possible about the plot because it really enhances the experience. It's a welcome change of pace. My favorite movie of the year, so far.
