It's easy to picture how this film was conceived: "Let’s remake Overboard, but flip the roles, add a superficial 'Spanglish' touch, and ensure it follows the established pattern of remakes being dreadful." Like so many recent re-imaginings, this one feels hollow and lacks genuine connection between the performers. It seemed as though the cast was instructed to simply go through the motions, even when attempting that supposed ‘Spanglish’ flavor within the remake framework. Aside from Ghostbusters, I'm not convinced any of these remakes have been financially successful, and even the positive reception for Ghostbusters felt manufactured due to social pressure. This current approach has to stop. It’s not just about ruining beloved classics; it's because these movies are simply bad.
