It’s attempting to be a heartwarming movie… but perhaps not quite succeeding! *Open Hearts* didn't really leave me with many strong impressions. It’s an acceptable film, the narrative is memorable, and the performances are perfectly adequate. Beyond that, it’s difficult for me to offer much more commentary, truthfully. Sonja Richter and Mads Mikkelsen have a good rapport onscreen, as do Paprika Steen and Nikolaj Lie Kaas. The storyline they're all caught up in is quite disheartening; the dynamic between Richter’s Cecilie and Mikkelsen’s Joachim feels unsettling to witness. Stine Bjerregaard’s role felt unnecessarily contrived, although she delivers a decent performance. I did find the editing and cinematography somewhat jarring, though this aspect diminishes as the film progresses. That's my only significant criticism.
