Synopsis

Paris, 1830. Valentin indulges in alcohol, gambling, and fleeting relationships, convinced life holds no meaning, especially love. His uncle, Van Buck, values only wealth and business. Their contrasting views are challenged when Van Buck arranges for Valentin to marry the young, impoverished Baroness Cécile to boost his reputation. Valentin, determined to prove Cécile is like all other women – unworthy of love – makes a bet that he can seduce her in 24 hours. However, Cécile, who believes in genuine affection, proves unexpectedly resistant, forcing Valentin to employ every tactic imaginable to win his wager.
