Synopsis

The film follows Yamaguchi Yoshiko, a Japanese woman who grew up in China during the Japanese occupation of Manchuria. She begins her career as the Chinese singer and actress Li Xianglan (Ri Kouran), hoping to help both Japan and China. However, she gradually realizes she's being used as a tool for Japanese military propaganda, starring in films designed to humiliate the Chinese population. Despite this, she gains immense popularity across borders in Japan, billed as the "star of Greater East Asia." A concert in Tokyo draws massive crowds to the Nihon Gekijou Theatre, culminating in a riot that results in injuries. Based on her autobiography, the story explores her personal conflict amidst the military tensions between her two home countries.
